My husband and I are struggling to decide where to send our 4 yo son to pre-K next year. There’s a public school right by our house. Ratings are pretty terrible and he would be the minority (both race and socioeconomically) which I’m not opposed to, but something I haven’t personally experienced. There’s two private schools we are considering but both faith based and we aren’t religious. Great ratings but very little diversity.

I want to give him a great education but also want him to be well rounded and know there’s a world outside his upper middle class white bubble.

Ughhh how do you decide what’s “right”?

My preschoolers need to take a lunch to school each day and they don’t have a way to heat them up. The other day, my 4 year old looked me in the eye, and said deadly seriously, “Don’t EVER send me cold chicken again. EVER.” So I’m looking for inspiration for things to pack in preschool lunches that are kept cold! He doesn’t typically like to eat things cold that are supposed to be served hot (with pasta being an exception weirdly). We’ve done sun butter sandwiches, mix charcuterie (aka pepperoni, cheese, crackers, fruit) and deli meat roll up’s, each with mixed success depending on the kid and the day 🙃 What are some things I’m not thinking of??

We are a “less is more” for the holidays kind of family, so we typically like to do just one central gift and maybe a book or some pjs etc. Anyone have any unique ideas for a central gift for a 3yo boy? We also don’t do electronics/screens so looking for something outside that box. Any ideas? (He already has a tricycle and a yotoplayer). Heeelllpppopp

I have elementary aged kids and as Summer approaches I’m finding myself panicking a bit. I love my children but 3 months in the heat while balancing work is just a lot. I wish we could spend the Summer traveling but it’s not in the cards for us, we have one vacation planned to look forward to.

Any advice for how to make it through?

Anyone here have experience with family RV rentals? We are wanting to go to the mountains for the month of August with our 3 young kids. On initial glance, renting the RV might be more expensive than just getting a home rental?? But we think the experience would be fun!

I've been a stay at home mom for the past 6+ years, married for 10 and always relied on my husbands job. I want to start making my own money, saving for trips, bathroom remodel, nice jewelry etc. Where can I find a job that allows me to juggle the house work (laundry, meals, cleaning, drop off, pick up, after school classes etc) and actually make some money? IS THIS A UNICORN I'M LOOKING FOR?

If you have a busy schedule and often find yourself eating on the go, grabbing a fresh and filling meal can make all the difference. Subway offers a variety of options, whether you need a quick breakfast before work or a satisfying lunch during a break. You can explore different choices and see what fits your budget by checking out the Subway menu in the UK.

  • Neighbor dog barking

We have new neighbors renting the house next door to us. The houses are close together and their dog barking is driving me crazy. It’s off and on all day long (deep and loud). And if we are outside, he barks at us right at the fence. I haven’t yet met this new neighbor….what do I do?! If you’re a dog owner, would you be offended if your neighbor voiced their frustration with your dog?

  • Career advice

    Hey team,

I currently work from home for a title company. What I do is a little “nichey” and am not necessarily looking to stay in the industry. While I do have some flexibility and autonomy I’m not challenged whatsoever and there’s no upward mobility in this role. Add in a funky housing market and I’m simply not making enough money to support our family. I’m looking for something new and don’t know where to start. I need and want flexibility with two young kids but also want a promising, fulfilling career path. Preference to working from home/hybrid. I’m open to looking to new industry. My career trajectory has been more of a jungle gym than a straight line but my experience ranges from nonprofit, design industry and now title industry. Would love to network with any of you that might have some experience with this!

  • For Sale: Pikopye's Town

Hey moms, the former Pikopye's Town space off S. Lamar is ready to be taken over. Unfortunately the business was mismanaged and closed a month-ish ago. The Lakeway location is owned independently from this one.
The opportunity is to buy the furniture, fixtures and equipment currently in the space, taking over the lease, etc.
There are business manuals + computer and POS software that were left behind so you could continue operating pretty soon. I think there is a LOT of upside to this business, though, and could be sooo fun for a local Austin fam.

Lease Term: 36 months Free Rent: 2 months gross rent ($23,042)

If there's interest I'll link a Google Doc with the details for who to contact to tour the space.
