Hey there! Sleep can be a tough one and there can be many underlying contributing factors. Hormones play a big role, especially when a woman has entered perimenopause. Progesterone is calming to the brain and increases GABA (a neurotransmitter) activity which promotes relaxation and helps with sleep. During perimenopause progesterone often begins to decline and this can result in sleep disturbances. Cortisol can also play a role, as this is our stress hormone. Blood sugar imbalances can contribute as well so sometimes a high protein snack before bed can help stabilize blood sugar levels. If glucose drops too low in the middle of the night this causes a cortisol spike which can contribute to waking in the middle of the night and restless sleep. Melatonin and magnesium can both, help but it’s best to get to the underlying cause of why you’re not sleeping well. Hormone testing would be a great place to start!

Delta 9 gummies, magnesium cream/spray, working out, going to bed at the same time and waking up at the same time. But really, Delta 9 gummies

Agree with Dr. Leslie - Test, don't guess. It could be hormonally be an issue, especially if you've tried all the things. I' terrible at this, but I know many will say to put away the electronics/TV an hour or two before. Maybe try journaling if you have a lot on your mind. There are so many types of Magnesium, so Mag Biglysicnate is the best for sleep. Good luck Mama!

I had this same issue for a while and kind of became addicted to melatonin. I would try to avoid taking it to fall asleep, but I would take half of a kids one if I woke up and it was before 3 am. I also started to get into the routine of going to bed the same time every night, and putting the phone away and out of my room completely and in the bathroom.
