Embossing with an inkjet printer
It’s time for MomBrain to come out of the closet. No, not that closet. The one with all my scrapbook supplies. It’s true! MomBrain is a closet scrapbooker, and the sheer volume of eyelets and background papers and embellishments fills that closet to overflowing.
Since MomBrain is confessing her deepest darkest secrets, I will also tell you that the local Goodwill is one of my favorite shopping destinations when I’m feeling blue or artsy or self-indulgent. And it paid off on my last trip when I scored about 40 jars of embossing powder for only $3 (and easily worth $75-$100). So, with such an embarrassment of powdery riches, I’ve been looking for creative ways to use them.
Here’s a cool tip from HP for embossing images from an inkjet printer. Why limit yourself to rubber stamps when you can get creative with your own scanned images, font-happy text, or custom-sized borders? Detailed steps are at HP, but basically you keep the embossing powder close at hand, print any image you like, and then sprinkle the powder on the printout immediately after it emerges from the printer. Use a heating tool as usual and voila!Different papers and inks have different effects, so it’s worth experimenting. But truly, this one little technique has made my printed cards so much cooler.
