Joining the Streakified Masses

selftanner.gifIn which MomBrain discovers a color not found in nature …

Here at MomBrain HQ, we are wearing an orange Badge of Honor. Well, it’s sort of orange. More like tannish orange, or orangeish tan … it’s kinda hard to tell between the streaks. Yes, it’s true - MomBrain is the newest poster child for self-tanner abuse.

Self-tanner abuse is a scourge in the Northwest, especially in June-uary when we crawl from our dank caves, huddling together for warmth, blinking into the relentlessly cloudy sky and hoarding our last microbe of Vitamin D like a Depression-era grandma guarding a single dried pea in the back of an empty cupboard. Pasty and sallow, desperate for anything resembling health, vitality, or sunshine, we have no choice. We fake bake, with gusto. There is no exfoliating, no rubbing in circles, no blending. That’s so LA! In fact, the true Seattle-ite always has white ears, muddy looking knees and elbows, and slimming vertical streaks on her legs. And it’s okay, because it’s mostly hidden by the polar fleece we wear until August.

  1. Photo op!

  2. It sounds gorgeous.

I have olive skin (year-long tan!) and my older sister always told me that it meant that people saw my skin as green. So maybe orange is a step up?
